Quadriburgium – type fortification, it was located on a rocky promontory on the bank of the Danube (Măcin arm), at the point called “Piscul Sărat”. It is located approx. 2 km S of Peceneaga.

The first notes were made by P. Polonic at the end of the 19th century when he mentioned a square fortification with sides of 36 m. No archaeological excavations were carried out.

Our measurements outline the square fortification, very similar in size to the one described more than a century ago, respectively a larger fortification, with an irregular shape, about 100 m to the southeast, that is, on the corner of the plateau.

In the corners of quadriburgium-type fortification, one can notice better-highlighted structures, which most likely come from the ruins of towers of the same shape. To the north and west of the fortification, we can see extensive works of land improvements that were carried out up to the mentioned limits of the fortification.

In the southwest of the plateau, an enclosure with a rather irregular shape is observed. The northern portion appears to have been more heavily affected by earlier works. The appearance and dimensions indicate some similarities with the fortification from Dunavățul de Jos – “Cetatea Zaporojenilor”. However, our data are far too few for a chronological attribution to be possible, and in-depth research is necessary.
