Abstract:

The archaeological research carried on at the Eneolithic tell from Hârșova, developed along several important stages, and took into account, from the beginning, the whole stratigraphic succession, both by conducting soundings, but especially by surface investigation. Thus, the surveys of SA and SC, but especially the areas SB and SC/pP, yielded essential information for the understanding of the Eneolithic occupation and the chronological and cultural evolution of this important tell.

Being integrated in the wider context of the study of tell type settlements in Muntenia and Dobrudja, the sedimentological research of the Hârșova tell had focused on the geomorphological context in which the occupation was founded, the identification of any elements or structures for the arrangement or delimitation of the settlement, and the understanding of the overall stratigraphy and its chronology.

The research methodology consisted of combining series of logs with the soil auger, supplemented with sedimentological corings with continuous column sampling, in tubed state, small-size soundings, and the stratigraphic analysis of their sections and from the archaeological investigated zones.

The obtained results allowed to identify the main geomorphologic characteristics of the settlement and to define its main formation stages.
