Abstract:

The medieval settlement in Şibot (Cânepişte) was investigated in 2012 through archaeological excavations determined by the archaeological discharge of the site when the Al, Orăştie – Sibiu motorway (sector Orăştie – Sebeş was under construction). The zone, rich from an archaeological point of view, confirmed the presence of a medieval settlement of the l 51 h century, destroyed during the battle of October 13, 1479. This article presents the results of the preliminary analysis of the archaeological vestiges and finds excavated on the above mentioned site. There have been outlined a large variety of archaeological vestiges, such as: dwellings, refuse pits, fountains, inhumation graves, a road. Also, the artefacts are diverse: from ceramic objects, metal tools, to medieval weaponry. One have to mention that, beside the habitat of the I 51 h c., was identified a level of habitation of the 121 h_13th centuries, represented by specific archaeological materials: pots adorned with the combs, as well as clay buckets. The presented data are completing the general image o fthe (upon) site and the daily life in the Middle Ages.
