Cercetări arheologice din anul 1981 de la Mitoc „Pîrîul lui lstrati”, jud. Botoşani
The archaeological survey οf 1981 resumed the research-works at the Neolithic Cucuteni-type settlement „Pîrful lui Istrati, Mitoc village , Botoşani county. The main goal of the soundings undertaken there was to obtain more complete data referring to this type of settlement, the system of dwelling placement and the characteristics of their pottery. In this respect two trenches (SI and SII ) were marked at a distance of 5 m from one another each having 75 x 1 m and 35 x 1 m respectively . Two dwelling s (L1 and L2) were partially surveyed by cutting two areas of 5.50 x 4 m and 6.50 x 3 m respectively (pl.l/ 1, 2). Both, L 1 and L 2 contained a fairly rich inventor y of potter y fragments, intact or restorable pots, various implements and stone weapons. Taking into account the shapes of the pottery as well as the decorative elements – mostly incisions, sometimes alongside grooved decorations or bicoloured paintings, rather few tricoloured pottery, both on a white (pl.IIl/2, 4) and red background (pl.IV/5) – the settlement can be attributed to phase A of Cucuteni Culture. At the upper part of the layer – no stratigraphie delimitation and individualization of building complexes being possible – pottery fragments characteristi c to the end of the Bronze Age – Noua culture – (pl. 11/1,5) and to the end of the 4 th century A.D . (pl.Il/2-4) were revealed.
