Abstract:
The current paper brings into discussion an archaeological artefact discovered at Capidava, during the 2015 archaeological campaign. This artefact is a slab of limestone with a bas-relief representation of the Thracian Rider, a local Thracian deity widespread among the Lower Danube provinces. The bas-relief was discovered in the SW part of the fort as a spolia, reused as construction material in a late Roman wall. In terms of its representation the bas-relief goes along with the iconographic local style. Only by analogy the find is dated around 2nd –3 rd centuries AD.
